Explain the logic behind this sentence- All the cake he had had had had no effect on his weight.

Answer

It can also be written as:

"All the cake he had eaten had caused no effect on his weight."

  • The Second and fourth "had" are replacement of the verbs eaten and caused her.
  • Both the parts of sentence are in past perfect tense. That explains the first and third "had".
