Ibn Battuta Biography of Ibn Battuta :

Abu Abd Allah Muḥammad Ibn Battutah or Ibn Battuta or Shams ad Din was born in 1304 at a time when the realms of the world lay undiscovered. He was born in Tangier, Morocco. He belonged to the Berber community into a family of Islamic legal scholars. It has been discussed that he probably studied at a Sunni Maliki Madhhab. He went on a hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca and left Morocco for 24 years. From Mecca he traveled across Algeria and Tunisia. Braving marauding tribes, he traveled in caravans and moved across Cairo, Damascus, Basra, Zagros Mountains, Mosul, Cizre, Mardin, Somalia, the Indian Sub-continent, Indonesia, Maldives, Morocco, Mali, Spain, Timbuktu, and China.

In 1354, Battuta returned to Morocco and narrated his travel and experiences to Ibn Juzayy and this is how Rihla was inspired. The complete title of the book is A Gift to Those Who Contemplate the Wonders of Cities and the Marvels of Traveling.
