Biography of Akshay Kumar :
Born as Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia on September 9th, 1967, Akshay Kumar's Bollywood career spans action, romance, drama and comedy. A Delhi boy from Chandni Chowk, Akshay schooled and went to college in Mumbai. After studying martial arts in Bangkok and working as a chef, he returned to Mumbai to teach martial arts and followed that up with modeling.
Although Saugandh was Akshay's debut film in 1991, his first big hit was in 1992's Khiladi. 1994 saw Akshay broke through with action films Main Khiladi Tu Anari and Mohra which were among the highest grossing films of the year. Then came the romantic film, Yeh Dillagi, which earned Akshay his first nominations for Best Actor at the Filmfare and Star Screen ceremonies.
The Khiladi series saw Akshay make hits out of Sabse Bada Khiladi and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi opposite Rekha and Raveena Tandon. An extended guest appearance in Yash Chopra's hit film Dil To Pagal Hai in 1997 notched Akshay a Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award nomination. In 1999, Kumar received critical acclaim for his roles in Sangharsh and Jaanwar.
Akshay began his trip with comedy in the 2000 starrer, Hera Pheri, which was both a critical and commercial success and showcased his versatility as an actor. In 2001, Kumar played a negative role in the film Ajnabee, winning him his first Filmfare Award for Best Villain.
Post Hera Pheri, Kumar did a number of comedy films, including Awara Paagal Deewana (2002), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and Garam Masala (2005), which earned him his second Filmfare Award for Best Comedian. Akshay proved himself in drama too, in movies such as Ek Rishtaa (2001), Aankhen (2002), Bewafaa (2005) and Waqt: The Race Against Time (2005).
2006 had Akshay score with the sequel to Hera Pheri titled Phir Hera Pheri. Then came the role of the shy nerd in the romantic starrer alongside Salman Khan, Jaan-E-Mann. And he wound up 2006 with the success of Bhagam Bhag.
But it was 2007 that worked out as Akshay's biggest year at the movies. His first release, Namastey London was critically and commercially successful, and his performance earned him a Best Actor nomination at the Filmfare. Then Heyy Babyy and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and finally, Welcome, did extremely well at the box office. All of Kumar's films which released that year did well in the overseas market as well. 2008 had a flop in Tashan, his comeback to the Yash Raj Films banner after 11 years. But Akshay's second film, Singh Is Kinng, was declared a super-hit within the first week itself.
