Wilkie Collins was a British short-story writer, novelist, and playwright. Some of his most-famous writings are Iolani, or Tahiti as it was. A Romance, The Moonstone, Memoirs of the Life of William Collins, Antonina, Rambles Beyond Railways, or, Notes in Cornwall taken a-foot, Basil, Hide and Seek, The Ostler, After the Dark, The Dead Secret, A Rogue\'s Life, The Frozen Deep, A Terribly Strange Bed, The Woman in White, No Name, No Name, Armadale, No Thoroughfare, The New Magdalen, The Law and the Lady, The Two Destinies, Who Killed Zebedee?, The Black Robe, The Legacy of Cain, and The Guilty River among many others. He was born in London. His father was the noted landscape painter, William Collins. He studied at Maida Vale Academy and Mr. Cole\'s private boarding school in Highbury. He grew up in Italy and France.

Wilkie Collins attended Lincoln\'s Inn to study law. His first book to be published was Memoirs of the Life of William Collins. His books were categorized as ‘sensational novels’. His books also reveal the plight of women in the nineteenth century. He died in 1889.
