Tarla Dalal, is a celebrated cook, who is one of the top five bestselling cookery authors in the world. She has written more than 170 titles, many of which have been translated in various languages like Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali and even Dutch and Russian! The total sales of her cookery books have exceed 4 million copies. She has done cookery shows in India and many major cities of the word such as Tokyo, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brussels, Antwerp, Lisbon, Zurich, Zairobi, London, Toronto, New York and Durban. Tarla Dalal has also been awarded the Padmashree, the fourth highest civilian honour in 2007.
Tarla Dalal was born in Pune, Maharashtra and moved to Mumbai after marriage. Dalal started cookery classes at her residence in 1996 which turned out to be hugely popular and there was even a huge waiting to enroll in her classes. It was during this period that she began to compile her recipes and modify recipes from other cuisines like Italian, Chinese, French, Thai, Mexican etc, which were predominantly non-vegetarian to vegetarian recipes. The Khaleej Times, Dubai quoted that "she has streamlined the eating habits in India".
Tarla Dalal writes a large number of cookery columns for various reputed publications, newspapers and magazines that include, The Indian Express, Dainik Jagaran, Manorama, Mid-Day, Femina, Afternoon, Loksatta, Lokprabha, The Telegraph (Calcutta), Malayala Manorama among others. Her recipes have been extensively covered by the electronic media including various TV stations/channels.
She also had her own cookery show titled Cook it Up with Tarla Dalal that was aired weekly on Sony Entertainment Television for five years. The show was broadcasted all over South East Asia, India, the Gulf, UK and even the US.

Tarla Dalal was awarded the Padmashree for her contribution in the field of cooking on January 26, 2007 by President Abdul Kalam at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. She is the first Indian to be awarded the Padmashree in this category

Indian Merchant Chambers presented Tarla Dalal the Woman of the year award, as she with her entrepreneurial skill and hard work moved beyond a woman\'s traditional role of cooking and shared her knowledge with millions worldwide.
