Stephen Edwin king is an American author known for his writings in fantasy fiction, horror, and science fiction. His renowned works include: CARRIE, The Shining, The Stand, It, Misery and The Dark Tower (a seven-series novel). Having sold more than 500 million copies of his books, he has also won many awards like Bram Stroker Awards, Locus Awards and the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters which was awarded by the National Book Foundation, in the year 2003.

Stephen Edwin King was born on 21 September, 1947 in Portland, Maine. He was born to Nellie Ruth and Donald Edwin King. At the age of two, his father left him and his mother alone along with his adopted brother David because of financial strain. He did his elementary education from Lisbon Falls High School in Lisbon, Maine. His interest in writing started while he was still in school. He went on to college in University of Maine in the year 1966. He later on graduated in the year 1970 with a Bachelors Degree in Science. His first daughter Naomi Rachel was also born that same year. His second son was born in 1972.

In the year 1973, King’s first novel Carrie was published by a publishing house called Doubleday. This was followed by his second novel called Second Coming which was later changed into Jerusalem’s Lot. However Jerusalem’s Lot didn’t really make him happy so he changed it into Salem’s Lot for the last time. This was published in the year 1975.

After his mother died, the family relocated to Boulder, Colorado where he wrote his next novel, The Shining. This novel was published in the year 1977. He completed his next novel The Stand which was published in the year 1978.During the late 1970s, he started working on his next book, The Dark Towers which was made into a seven-series novel. The first set was published in 1977 and the last of the book was later published in the year 2004. On November 10, 2009, Stephen King announced that he was going to write a new Dark Tower novel titled as The Wind Through The Keyhole which was supposed to be placed between the fourth and fifth installments.

King’s official website made an announcement on September 8, 2010, that Universal Pictures and NBC will be producing a film trilogy and a television series based on The Dark Tower series.
