Sidney Sheldon was an American Writer, director, and a producer. He became a full time writer after turning 50. He is also a recipient of the Academy Award. He is most famously known for his works in Rage of Angels, Master of the Game, and The Other Side of Midnight.

Sidney Sheldon was born on 11 February, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois. He was born to Natalie Marcus and Ascher Otto Schechtel who was a manager of a jewelry store. Both his parents were Russian Jewish descendants. During the Great Depression in United States he worked in various places. He graduated his high school from Denver East High School and later on went to Northwestern University for his college degree.

After finishing college he moved to Hollywood, California and started reviewing scripts. During the Second World War, he enlisted himself as a pilot but his unit never got dispatched so he had to live life as a civilian again. He relocated to New York and began writing musicals for Broadway shows and at the same time continued writing screenplays for MGM Studios and Paramount Pictures. His Broadway shows became a huge success and led him back to Hollywood. It was during this time that he won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for his work in The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, in the year 1947. He also tried his hand in television and did very good for himself.

His very first novel, The Naked Face was published in the year 1969. This novel earned him nomination for the Edgar Alan Poe Award in the category of First Best Novel. This was followed by his next novel, The Other Side of midnight. It went on to become #1 on The New York Times bestseller list. He also went on to write other novels like Rage of Angels, Master of The Game, Nothing Last forever, Tell Me Your Dreams, Windmills of The God and so many others. Most of his novels went on to become bestsellers.

Sidney Sheldon struggled with bipolar disorder for many years and finally died on January 30, 2007 from pneumonia at Eisenhower Medical Centre in Rancho Mirage, California. His body was cremated and the ashes were interred in Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetry.
