Sarveshwar Dayal Saxena was born in 1927 in Basti in Uttar Pradesh. He studied at Banaras Hindu University and Allahabad University. He was a popular Hindi writer, poet, columnist, and playwright. He was among the seven poets who featured in the Tar Saptaks which introduced the ‘Prayogvaad’ era or Experimentalism and further leading to the Nayi Kavita or the New Poetry Movement. He was regarded as one of the prominent political poets of the last century. Some of his most famous writings include Khutiyon Par Tange Log, Bakri, Lakh Ki Naak, Hawalat, and Bhaun Bhaun Khaun Khaun. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award for Khutiyon Par Tange Log. Apni Bitiya Ke Liye Ek Kavita has been made into an animation film by Siddhartha Pratap Singh.
