Sands Hall is an American writer, theater director, actor, and musician. Her writings include Tools of the Writer\'s Craft, Catching Heaven, Silver Dagger, and Hide and Go Seek. Her essays include Snow, Two Trees, Making Workshops Work, The Stacks, Banning Juliet, Dialogue Without Words, Now Write!, The Literary Life of Mary Hallock Foote, Mary Hallock Foote & Wallace Stegner, Fair Game, or Fair Use?, Abject Naturalism: Lessons from a Tough Workshop, A Stolen Life, A Tide of Metaphor, and The Meanders of Sands: Essays on Writer\'s Craft.

Sands Hall was born in La Jolla, California. She received a B.A in Drama from the University of California in Irvine. She has two M.F.A degrees: one in Theater Arts from the University of Iowa and the other in Fiction from the Iowa Writers\' Workshop. She currently serves as Visiting Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster in Pennsylvania and on the staff of the Community of Writers at Squaw Valley, California. She is the daughter of writer Oakley Hall.
