Rahul Sankrityayan Biography of Rahul Sankrityayan :

Mahapandit Rahul Sankrityayan is referred to as the Father of Hindi travel writings. He was one of the most widely-traveled Indian writers. He spent 45 years travelling. Sankrityayan was also jailed for three years for creating anti-British writings. He was also a polymath and polyglot.

Sankrityayan only went to a local primary school. Later on he mastered various languages and also studied photography.

He travelled to Ladakh, Kashmir and several other countries that include Nepal, Tibet, Sri Lanka, Iran, China, and USSR. He wrote a total of 146 books, some of which are dense reads. Quite a few of his works, however, remain unpublished.

About 10 of his works have been translated and published in Bengali. Sankrityayan was also awarded the Padmabhushan and Sahitya Akademi Award for his book Madhya Asia ka Itihaas.
