Mrinal Pande Biography of Mrinal Pande :

Writer Mrinal Pande has been writing fiction books, plays, essays on contemporary India, its women, India’s rural women and their sexual and reproductive lives in both Hindi and English. Despite being a hit in both the languages, she loves writing in Hindi. She was also honoured with a Padmashree in 2006 for contribution in the field of journalism.

Mrinal has taught at the Universities of Allahabad, Delhi and Bhopal before she moved to the field of journalism in mid 1980s. She has also edited well known Hindi periodicals. Mrinal has worked as Editor Anchor for Hindi news on Star News and Doordarshan. She also became India’s first woman Chief Editor of a multi edition Hindi daily (Hindustan, Hindustan Times Group). Mrinal was recently appointed Chairman of India’s national broadcaster, Prasar Bharati. She lives in Delhi with her husband.

Mrinal Pande, was born in Tikamgarh, Madhya Pradesh. She is the daughter of well-known Hindi writer Shivani. She studied at Nainital and then completed her Master\'s degree from Allahabad University. Later on she went about studying English and Sanskrit literature, Ancient Indian History, Archeology, Classical Music and the Visual Arts at the Corcoran in Washington DC. Her first story was published in the Hindi weekly Dharmyug, when she was 21. Since then she has been consistently writing, apart from having a successful career as a media person.

She spent several years on the National Commission for Self-Employed Women, inquiring into the conditions for rag-pickers, vegetable sellers and domestic helps.
