Majeed Amjad was born in 1914 at Jhang in Pakistan. His parents separated when he was two years old. He went to live with his mother and maternal grandparents. He was educated in Arabic and Persian. He attended Islamia College Railway Road in Lahore. He went to work for a newspaper called Arooj at Jhang. He was asked to leave Arooj as he wrote against British rule in former British India. During the Great Depression he worked in several towns and got married. He was proficient at Persian, Hindi, and English. He read Western literature and was exposed to science and social sciences. Two of his prominent poetry collections are Shab-e-Rafta and Shab-e-Rafta Ke Baad.
