Kripa Sagar was born as Kripa Das on May 4, 1875, in the village of Pipnakha in the outskirts of Gujranwala, now a major town in Pakistan. He became a prominent figure in Punjabi literature during the nineteenth century. Kripa Sagar ran his own publishing press from Ram Gali, Lahore, and his writing career took off with other career simultaneously. Some of his stalwart works include Lakshmi Devi, Maharaja Ranjit Singh", "Dido Jamwal", "Rai Raiyan", and Man Tarang. Lakshmi Devi, his epic work, finds inspiration in "Lady of the Lake" written by Sir Walter Scott. Finished in 1915, it was first printed in 1920. One of his popular poems is "Jelum da Pani” written on the River Jhelum in Urdu, and published in his collection Man Tarang.
