Kingsley Amis was a British author. Kingsley Amis was born in Clapham in South London. He attended City of London School and St. John\'s College, Oxford where he read English and met Philip Larkin. It was at this time that he was part of the Communist Party of Great Britain. He served in the Royal Corps of Signals during the Second World War. He returned to Oxford to complete his studies. He taught English at the University of Swansea. His first novel titled Lucky Jim was widely acclaimed. It was translated into twenty languages including Czech, Hebrew, Korean, and Serbo-Croat. He was known for his comic writing although his writing spilled across others genres such as poetry, essays and criticism, short stories, food and drink writing, anthologies, science fiction, and mystery. He was married to Elizabeth Jane Howard and his son is Martin Amis.
