Howard Pyle Biography and latest books by Howard Pyle

Howard Pyle was an American illustrator and writer. Some of his most-famous works include The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood, Otto of the Silver Hand, The Wonder Clock, Pepper and Salt (Seasoning for Young Folk) and Rejected of Men: A Story of To-day. He was born on March 5 in 1853 in Delaware, U.S. He taught at Drexel University before founding his own school of Fine Arts called the Howard Pyle School of Illustration Art. He also made illustrations for leading magazines and dailies such as Harper\'s Weekly and St. Nicholas Magazine.

Later Pyle went to Italy to study mural painting. He wrote books for children and illustrated most of them on his own. Some of his illustrations were compiled and titled as Howard Pyle\'s Book of Pirates. The pirate costumes of movie stars Johnny Depp, Errol and others in various films such as The Pirates of the  Caribbean were inspired by Pyle’s illustrations of pirate costumes.
