Ethel Mannin was born on October 6, 1900 in London into a family of Irish background. She started her career as a copywriter and journalist before becoming a writer. She protested against the mass executions by the colonial government in the former The Colony and Protectorate of Kenya. She was married to Reginald Reynolds.
