Dr. Dalip Kaur Tiwana is a novelist and short-story contemporary Punjabi writer. Tiwana wrote her first, novel, Agni Prikhya (The ordeal of fire), which was followed by seven novels and an autobiography called Nange peran da safar (Travelling on bare feet). She also brought out six short-story collections. The characters in Tiwana\'s fictional works are the downtrodden with suppressed desires. Tragedy and irony are expressed in most of her works. She was awarded the Padma Shri Award in 2004.
