Bulbul Sharma Biography of Bulbul Sharma :
Bulbul Sharma is an author and an artist. She has written three collections of short stories - My Sainted Aunts, The Perfect Woman and Anger of Aubergines, along with a full length novel Banana Flower Dreams. Her works have been translated into many foreign languages like Italian, French and Finnish. Her works for children are titled Fabled Book of Gods and Demons and The Children’s Ramayana. She has been conducting art and storytelling workshops for special children for the last 15 years.

The author along with writing, paints and teaches art to disabled children. She writes spontaneously at a stretch -- no rewrites, only grammar corrections -- and within a couple of days her works are complete. She said at an interview: “Writing is not a cerebral process for me. When I read the critics\' interpretations, I wonder, did I really write this?"

Her work, Anger of the Aubergines, emerges as a recipe book of domestic life. The idea struck when she wrote a story about women and food to an international anthology called Something to Savour. She found this relationship so natural that it became the centre plot of an entirely new collection. To this she says, "When you are born in a Bengali household, women are constantly talking about food. When you are having lunch, you start discussing what\'s for dinner."
 
Sharma graduated in Russian literature from Moscow State University. After numerous short stories, Sharma wrote a novel, Banana Flower Dreams, that talks about a girl growing up in a small town.
