Amanda Foreman is a British/American biographer and historian. Her works include A World on Fire: Britain’s Crucial Role in the American Civil War, A World on Fire: An Epic History of Two Nations Divided, The Duchess, and Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire. She attended Hanford School, England; Sarah Lawrence College, New York; Columbia University, New York; and Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. She worked as a researcher at Oxford and she published her first book titled Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire. It became an international bestseller and was number one in the U.K. as a hardback and paperback.

Amanda Foreman currently works as a senior research fellow at the Centre for Editing Lives and Letters, Queen Mary, University of London. Her father was Carl Foreman, screenwriter and film producer from Hollywood. Her brother is Jonathan Foreman who is an international correspondent, writer, and film critic.
